Fishing forecast for May - Summer is almost upon us, and the fish have arrives. Redfish are still constant catches when the wind isn't howling. The Reds are starting to show up in the duck ponds as the tides are getting higher, and grass is getting thicker. The next  6 months should begin fabulous fishing with the approach of Summer, spawning, and the shrimp season. Our calendar is filling up fast, book your trip now!

May 31, 2004 - Had the pleasure of fishing with Darlene Durrett and Dennis Laborde from Minden, Louisiana. We fished an afternoon trip on Saturday. Fishing was tough but we did manage to catch a limit of redfish with only two or three throw backs. Sunday had the same pair and fishing in 25 knot winds was about as tough as it gets, two reds and one drum. Just about enough for a meal. Capt. E.J. Jean Lafitte Charters. Bring on June!!!

May 29, 2004 - Sunday's Trip was with Mr. Charles Bramlett and family from Monticello, Georgia with a nice limit of redfish and a few bay snapper.

Evening:

The evening trip didn't go as well due to the near gale force winds we had. Still managed a good catch with, 12 reds, 2 flounders, and a few bay snapper. Back out again tomorrow.

May 28, 2004 - Monica and her husband Junior, used their Christmas gift certificate a (Jean Lafitte Fishing Charters fishing trip} to catch their limit of reds and a few bay snapper! Would you believe sheep head on a spinner bait?  Great fishing guys!

May 25, 2004 - Had three people today, fishing was good with clean water and a really high tide the redfish were aggressive. Managed a limit of reds before 8:30, and then decided to go big fish hunting. Managed one red around 28 inches, and about 9 pounds. The fishing action is on fire. Call now to get your trip!

May 22, 2004 - Fished today with Bill and Sylvia Furlong, two of my regular customers from Mandeville, La.. Fished the same area that we have been fishing all week, and it was show time as soon as we got there. Had our limit of reds by 7 am and released fish for two hours. We must have landed more than 75 reds. Most were 15 to 20 inches. I hope this action lasts for a few more days. Call now, we are booking fast!!! Capt. EJ

May 21, 2004 - Had two great guys and one of their sons today for some red hot action. The bite started as soon as we arrived and never stopped. I have been fishing the same area the last few days with outstanding results. We have been averaging well over 50 fish, per trip, over the last week. Would have posted names and pic, but the guys were playing hooky from work. Call us to get in on the excitement.

May 20, 2004 - What a great day the kids had catching redfish. Tim and Elvia Haynes and their two kids from Metairie caught over 40 redfish, a couple of bay snapper, and 5 or 6 flounders. The bait of choice for today was dead shrimp, stiff lined on the bottom. We kept the kids limit for dinner and released the rest to fight another day. Capt. E.J. 1-877-689-4120

May 18, 2004 - Gregg Ridlon, Dana Hensley, and Jerry Hensley from Minnesota caught more than 50 redfish. Although only about half of them were keepers the action was very hot as you can see by the smiles on there faces. Give me a call if you want to book a trip. See you on the water Capt. E.J. 1-877-689-4120

May 15, 2004 - Fished with Trey and Robby Diaz of Metairie, LA today. Fishing was fantastic despite a few rain squalls. The redfish in the duck ponds are really aggressive right now. The bait of choice today was a  purple and chartreuse H&H Cochahoe with number four spinner attached to a 1/4 oz. jig head. With a really high tide and lots of grass in the ponds, the redfish are stacked up in there for now. Fishing should be superb over the next week.

May 14, 2004 - Fished with 2 regular customers today. With the SE wind that his been blowing in the last couple days it has made the tide extremely high, and turned the redfish bite on. We were able to catch about 20 gorgeous reds, that almost looked like goldfish due to the immaculate water in the marsh. Back at it tomorrow. Call now to take advantage of the great pre-summer action.

May 11, 2004 - What a difference a day makes. Fished today with Andy Pappas, Cris Cumley and Mike Twamley from Colorado. Probably one of the best trips that I have had in ten years out of Lafitte We left the dock at 6:15 and headed for this point where I have been catching a few redfish. We started off  with dead shrimp under a cork casting toward the bank . We managed to catch a few reds. I looked behind me and saw fish breaking the surface so I picked up a rod with a beetle and popping cork and made a few cast. Meanwhile one of the guys hooked on to a redfish so I turned around to net it not realizing that I had laid my bait in the water.  When I heard the splash I knew it was to late, (Goodbye rod & reel.) I picked up another rod and tied a jig head with a treble hook trailer. I did hook my rod but I was catching a redfish on every cast with only a jig head and treble hook and no bait. These guys could not believe it and neither could I. They removed the shrimp and started casting just the jig head. In two hours we boated over 60 redfish on a ¼ oz jig head and well over 100 redfish for the morning and kept only a few for dinner. I have heard stories of catching fish on only a jig head and today made a believer out of me. With many years of fishing experience this was a first for me. Andy wanted me to put his phone number if anyone did not believe this report. 970-856-7141. Give me a call if you would like to book a trip with us. We have great accommodations and you will guarantee your party will have enjoyable time Thanks Capt. E.J. and lets go fishing.

May 8, 2004 Fishing was a little slow today, had a small front pass through the area last night and it switched the winds to the north, made water muddy and gave the fish lock jaw. Caught 8 reds, 2 flounders, 1 catfish. Still a gorgeous morning weather wise. Weather looks nice over the next couple days, call now to get in on the action!!!

May 5, 2004 - Had the same group from yesterday, and boy were they ready to get going. Day 2 of the trout slam was on. Hooked up between 75-85 trout today. Fishing rip currents off of points, and drifting slicks near diving sea gulls. Another great day weather wise, light wind, green water, moving tide, almost perfect. All fish were released today.

May 4, 2004 - Great day today, weather was nice, had strong current though. Ran towards Grand Isle to chase the specks today. Water was a pretty green. Caught between 60-70 trout. All fish were caught on 1/4 oz. jig head, with pearl beetle, fished about 2 feet under a popping cork. Best part about the trip today was, all fish were released to fight another day. True Sportsman. To get in on the action send us an email or give us a call. fishing should be red hot for the next couple weeks, as long as weather cooperates.

May 2, 2004 - Fishing has improved a little, but with all the bad weather and high winds, the water is very muddy right now. Managed to catch 12 reds, 7 trout and a flounder today.

May 1, 2004 - With bad fishing conditions the last 3 days due to the weather, we still was out on the water and managed to catch almost a dozen reds and a few trout. The fishing will improve once the weather improves
