Advisor reviews in February 2012, we would like to encourage our
customers to share their experience with Jean Lafitte Fishing
Charters.
Fishing forecast for March
- After a decent February, March is shaping up
great. Warmer weather is definitely the key this month. Once that wind
switches to the south and gets the tide higher, the water will get
clean, and the grass will begin getting thicker. Redfish should be the
hot ticket this month. There should also be some Trout, Drum, Sheepshead,
and Bass will spawn around this month as well. . Reserve your dates now
so you can get in on some exciting fishing action.

Today, Capt Barry had the Le Penna family.
They did well with nice weather and saved just enough fish to be cleaned and
eaten at Jan's Cajun Restaraunt.

March 28, 2012
Not only did Victoria and
Joe have the experience of catching their first redfish, but also the
enjoyment of having a few for lunch at Jan`s. They will be taking some
wonderful memories back to Chicago. All fish caught on spinner baits, blk/chart.

Matt Messing bachelor
party, Akins family , Cherie and Laura. More of our clients from the
past few days. Fishing was great over the weekend but the bite was slow
today. Gulps under a cork and shrimp on the bottom were the baits of the
day.

Another Awesome day on the Water! Capt. Barry
took Kelly and Shane from Minnesota and it was a repeat of the last few
days. They decided to keep only enough to eat at Bayou De Famille Restaurant
in Crown Point, LA. The pair ended up boating about 15 keeper redfish and
another dozen smaller redfish. All were released except for the ones that
were saved for dinner.
Also, they caught a redfish that was
previously hooked. The redfish still had the Circle Hook in its mouth. We
removed both hooks and returned him to the water to see how many more lives
he can get! I'm sure if he gets caught again he will end up swimming in
Bayou D' Grease!

March 24, 2012
Today, Capt. Mike had James
Sasser and his friend Tim. Also, Capt. Dave had the Levi party. Capt. Barry
and myself had the Matt Messing Bachelor Party from Texas A&M (Welcome to
the SEC). Spinner baits and gulps under
a cork were the hot lures for the day. Great job out there today guys!

March 23, 2012
The Heavy Rains which dropped about 3.5
inches in the early hours this morning moved out by 8:30am. We hit the water
with the Shilling Party on their last day. With no wind (finally), clear
blue skies, high water and the temperatures rising in the low 80's THE
FISHING WAS ON FIRE!
Between both boats, the Shilling party landed
about 70 fish total and everyone brought home their limit. I would like to
thank the guys from Illinois as we truly enjoyed having your group on the
water. These guys are some great fishermen, worked hard in rough weather and
caught tons of fish!

Day 3 with the Schilling party
was a repeat of the day before but the wind was even worse. We dodged the
rain and hid in the canals for the majority of the day but we managed to
catch a few fish.
|
March 20, 2012
Day two with the Schilling
party and all I can say is gusty redfish. The only thing we could fish today
were spinner baits. 30 knot winds made it difficult to say the lease, but
the guys stuck with it and managed a nice mess of reds. Out again tomorrow
if the weather holds.

March 19, 2012
Day one of four with the
Jake Schilling party from Illinois. Windy conditions did not hold these guys
back. 30 plus redfish and a few flounder and trout. Spinner baits,
smoke/chart. and gulps under a cork were the hot baits for the day.

March 18, 2012
Mike Kennedy fished solo with Capt. Barry on Sunday as I
needed a day off. Mr. Kennedy kept his limit of redfish to take home and
released another dozen redfish.
|
March 17,
2012
On Saturday Capt. Barry had the
Savon party. They caught 8 keeper size redfish, a fewblack drum and 6 nice
redfish escaped the boat.

March 16, 2012
Day two with the Reeves
party, a repeat of yesterday. Capt. Barry had the Ryan Harper party and
Capt. Dave had the Horton party. Its been several awesome days of fishing.
The baits of the day still are Berkley Shrimp Gulps under a cork and Spinner
Baits. The weather was awesome! Going to be a Great weekend of Fishing!
Thanks to all our clients. We look forward to seeing you on the water again
soon!

March 15, 2012
First day with the Maury
Reeves party. We tried shrimp under a cork for the first two hours and
switched to gulps under a cork. Trolling slowly down the shoreline was the
ticket. A limit of reds and a dozen or so trout.
Also, Capt Barry took out 15
year olds Ben, Joe and Tommy from Boston who caught their limit of redfish
and brought 10 back to the dock to be cleaned and eaten at Jan's Cajun
Restaraunt. Its not often we take out a group of polite young men like that.
Thanks Mom! :o)

March 14, 2012
The two best days of fishing
in the last couple of months. Once again we had the Rick Johnson party with
Entergy. Most fish caught on shrimp under a cork but Capt. Barry`s crew
caught theirs on spinnerbaits and tightlining H&H cocahoe`s.
|
March 13, 2012
Today, Capt. Barry and Capt.
Mike fished the Rick Johnson party with Entergy and I had Jamie Gudino and
his son Anthony. Most all fish caught were caught using shrimp and under a
popping cork. The Entergy group will be eating some of their catch at Jan`s
Cajun Restaurant tonight. Out tomorrow with the same group. Today was
by far the nicest day we have had in a while.

March 8th-12th, 2012
The past few days have been
very windy, but the redfish have been hitting shrimp under a cork with a
vengence.
I would like to thank all
our clients from the last several days: Hershall
Barron and his son Nick. Holly Rudd and the Gator Girls from Oregon. The
Jeff Brown party, Bill Everett party, David Strange and his son Sam and the
Jim Kuzirian party.
This is a very busy week
coming up so hopefully we will have some good reports. The calendar is
filling up quickly, so call now and don't forget to bring the kiddos!
Thanks again to our
customers! We look forward to seeing you back on the water again soon!

March 7, 2012
On Wednesday I had the
pleasure of fishing with Charles Snyder and his wife. The weather was still
a bit windy but man did it feel good! Great day to be on the water! A nice
mess of redfish and some bass made for a lot fun!
|
March 5th-6th, 2012
On Monday I had the pleasure
of fishing with Harold and Mary Mixson from California. Tuesday it was the
Dave Brown party. Both days were very windy, low tides and muddy water. We
mostly fished shrimp, tight lining and under a cork. A few trout, bass,
flounder redfish and a bunch of sheepshead.
|
March 4, 2012
Not many choices of where to
fish today. South winds two days ago and north winds yesterday made clean
water hard to find. My clients Casey O`Donoghue and his friend Danny fished
mostly dead end canals. The trout we caught were impressive, also a few nice
reds. Capt Barry also fished a group of four. They had a mix bag of reds,
drum ,sheepshead and a flounder going 4 pounds.
|
March 2, 2012
Went scouting today when the South wind was blowing
15-20mph, we tried one of our favorite honey-holes for Bass and the bite has
been great! Every 2nd or 3rd day following the cold fronts the temps have
gone up into the 70's and the bass turn up their bite.
This time of year,
the bass will begin moving up onto their beds to spawn. We have been
catching a bunch of Bass full of eggs! All you Bass fisherman out there,
come fish the same waters where Kevin Van Dam set the record for total weight
in a Bass Master's Classic.
