February 2006

This time of year the trout action is usually good and so are the redfish. The weather is still warm and the fish are very close to the marinas. All baits are currently working; whether top water, tightline, under a cork it just does not matter!  So give us a call Toll-Free 1-877-689-4120 and Let's Go Fishing! Capt. EJ

February 28, 2006 -David and Rodney had fished with me at the end of last year. Rather than going to the parades they deceided to take the kids fishing. When we arrived at our destination 50 or so other boats had the same idea. I believe half of the population went to the parades and the other half was fishing in Lafitte. The first part of the morning produced 31 trout and the second half 3 keeper reds and 1 flounder. It was a much better catch then we would have caught at any parade. Here are the boys, David Jr. and Jacob with a couple of nice trout. Conditions: clear with light winds. Bait; beetle`s under a cork, H&H cocahoe`s on the bottom. A big thanks to the guys for taking me away from Mardi Gras. Capt. E.J.

February 24, 2006 - Edwin and Mona Harrington arrived at the dock at 6:45. They wanted to try some bass fishing so to the Salvador game management area we went. For two hours they pitched spinner baits, worms and a little top water, only producing one little bass . I told them it was time to give the trout a try, which proved to be the right move. Even with the wind at 20mph plus they managed to put 25 nice trout and a couple of red fish in the boat. We arrived back at the dock just as the rain started , perfect timing. We also enjoyed some of the catch for lunch at Jan`s. Capt. EJ

February 19, 2006 - Don`t believe the weather man. 5 to 10 and 50 + degrees ??? Not even close. It was one hell of a cold morning. Capt. Chet had the Shackleton group and they managed one red and one bass in the awful conditions. I had the Larry Hall group, 4 very good fisherman and we managed to catch 14 trout and 2 catfish. Where the cats came from who knows. Conditions: Very cold and windy. Bait: whatever, as long as it was under a cork. Capt. E. J.

February 18, 2006 - My clients for Saturday didn`t show up until 11:30, (one of those Bourbon Street delays). The front had past thru by then and with 20mph plus winds, fishing was rough. 6 trout and 1 3lb bass. Here is a picture of a few I took on the boat. Capt. E.J.

February 17, 2006 - Friday morning Kevin Cuevas and his group, Ronald Arnau , Ronald Jr. and William Shows headed out ar 7am. After running around for 20 minutes and not finding any clean water we headed south. Kevin has had several good trips with me the past few months but today wasn`t looking very good. As luck would have it we found some clean and moving water and once again it turned out to be a great trip. 74 trout and 1 redfish. You lucked out again Kevin. Most fish were caught off of one point. Conditions: clean water, light winds. Bait: glow beetle's under a cork. Capt. E.J.

Evening Trip - Sean McCarthy phoned me on my Friday morning trip and wanted to do a short Friday afternoon trip. I told him meet me at the dock at 2:30 and we will do it and it was off for round two. Conditions had changed by the afternoon so we chased after the redfish. Bait; black/char cocahoe`s on a 1/4 unpainted head. Here is Sean with one of the hogs we caught in the afternoon, a nice 10 pounder. Capt E.J.

February 9, 2006 - My wife and I just returned from a trip to New York City. Its been a week since I`ve been on the water and with the weather that's coming for the next few days, fishing in the Lafitte area may become very slow. Here are a couple of before the front reds I caught in a short time this morning. These two and four more were released to fight another day. Capt. E.J.

January 29, 2006 - February 7, 2006 - On Vacation in the Big Apple to celebrate my 35th Wedding Anniversary. Be Back on the water starting Feb. 9th. Please check back for the latest happenings in the Lafitte area. Thanks, Capt. EJ
