March 2006

This time of year the trout action is usually good and so are the redfish. The weather is still warm and the fish are very close to the marinas. All baits are currently working; whether top water, tightline, under a cork it just does not matter!  So give us a call Toll-Free 1-877-689-4120 and Let's Go Fishing! Capt. EJ

March 24-25, 2006 - The Ferrill`s and the Perrault`s from Mississippi, fished with Capt. Mike Saturday and Sunday. Saturday was the better day with a catch of over 50 trout, but Sunday was difficult due to low water and high winds. Only 15 fish were brought to the cleaning table. Bait: curly tail grubs on the bottom.

March 23, 2006 - Today was the third time in six weeks that Sean McCarthy has fished with me. Once again he proved he can catch red fish as was the case today with an awesome 30 inch beauty. Even with the howling winds we had this afternoon we put 20 plus fish in the boat and all were released to fight another day. Conditions: sunny and windy, Bait: spinners and cocahoe`s on the bottom.

March 20, 2006 - What can I say about today. If there ever was a day that you had to work to catch fish today was it. White caps in the canals, white caps in the ponds. Don't even think about fishing any open water. But, and I say but it was just before the front and that's what made our day. Once again I had the gang from Hattiesburg, MS. Mark, Paul, James and David and as you can see by the pictures it turned out to be a fairly productive day. Big fish goes to Mark with this beautiful 9 pounder. He has bragging rights till next time. 34 trout, 5 reds, 1 flounder, and a drum. Conditions: sailing and kite flying weather. Bait: glow beetle's under a cork, smoke/char. Cocahoe`s on the bottom.

March 19, 2006 - The Waylon May group were tired of spending their weekends in a motel room. They are a crew  from several different states  working on  highlines that cross the Mississippi river. Melody, Justin S., Waylon, Aleck, Justin C. and Mark joined Capt Mike, Capt. Chet. and myself for some hot Louisiana redfish and trout action. At lease it was hotter than yesterday. 17 redfish, a flounder, a couple of bass and over 100 trout. Some fish were kept for dinner but most were released to fight another day. Conditions; overcast and moderate winds, clean water. Bait: Spoons, spinner baits, beetle's under a cork, cocahoe`s on the bottom.  The fish were caught on just about everything and everyway. Out again in the morning with the boys from Hattiesburg. Capt. E.J.

March 18, 2006 - MORNING TRIP - Today Capt. Mike D. and Capt. Mike J. had the Clay Frazien group  and I had Ken Nichols and his three sons. After a late start it was off to find some protected canals. Due to the high winds and low water it was the only game in town. Between all three boats we had around 60 trout and worked for every one. Conditions: overcast and very windy, but clean water. Bait: beetle's under a cork and curly tail grubs on the bottom.

Afternoon Trip -  I keep saying I'm not going to do any more doubles, but not being to find a guide for the morning I was out again Saturday afternoon. My clients for the afternoon Olivia and Fernando  had never been out in the marsh before and thought it was a very unusual place, big difference from New York City. A dozen trout , a flounder and one redfish was the catch for the afternoon. Same conditions as the morning. Bait: beetle's under a cork.

March 16, 2006 - After an afternoon swamp tour yesterday, my clients were itching to do some fishing. Richard from California, Bob from Las Vegas and Harold from New Orleans. It took 3 different areas to put a mess of fish together, 30 in all. Harold was the winner for today catching the most fish, but tomorrow it's the golf course, so he may be in trouble. Conditions: overcast with light winds, clear water, Bait: beetle`s under a cork and spinner baits. Capt. E.J.

March 13, 2006 -What a great day to be on the water. My clients, Dale Wilson, Joe Albiez and I left the dock at 6:45. After a short boat ride it didn`t take long to put a limit of reds in the boat. It was just one of those mornings. The fish were running in the 16 to 20 or 25 to 29 inch range, nothing in between. We released 3 or 4 over 27 and over a dozen in the 16 to 20 inch range. We also had 17 nice trout, a couple of bass, even one up a tree. I had to get a picture. Conditions; overcast and windy, outstanding water clarity. Bait: #4 H&H spinner with smoke/char cocahoe`s. Another front coming in tonight, it may make it tough for a day or so. Capt. E.J.

March 11, 2006 - Sean McCarthy had fished with me several weeks ago. He thought he could make it to the dock by 2pm, but with last minute problems at work he didn't arrive till after 3. With limited time to fish, it was off to find some redfish. Even with very windy conditions, we found beautiful water, and plenty of  redfish. The redfish bite is on in  Lafitte. A quick limit of reds and a mess of nice trout, my kind of trip. All fish were released to fight another day. Bait: Spinners with H&H smoke/char cocahoe`s,. Check out our Monday -Wednesday special. Capt. E.J.

March 10, 2006 -  The high winds the past few days have made for some rough fishing and some cancellations. The good thing is that the water level is higher than its been in several months. With the water comes the fish and the redfish are out there stacked up in the ponds. I had a limit of reds in a short while this evening, and  also a few trout for dinner on a short scouting trip this morning. Conditions; very windy. Bait: Smoke/Char cocahoe`s on the bottom. Capt EJ

March 5, 2006 - Three boats out today. Capt. Mike had the Steven Nguyen group, Capt.Joe had the Rafael Valdes group and I had Tim clark and his son Carter. All of the boats had great catches and the guys had bags of fish to take back to the house. Most of the fish were caught under a cork with some hitting cocahoe`s off the bottom. Conditions were as good as it gets. Till next time, see you on the water. Capt. EJ

March 4, 2006 -Virgil Henson, his wife Debbie, Kim and Mark have fished with me several times in the past few months. They have become very good clients. The weather was much cooler then we expected this morning and with the windy conditions it didn`t warm up much. With the low water conditions we deceided to stay with the trout all morning. The bite was slow but steady ending the day with 55 keepers. Bait: beetle`s under a cork. Good fishing and good company made for a great day. Capt. E.J.

February 28, 2006 -David and Rodney had fished with me at the end of last year. Rather than going to the parades they deceided to take the kids fishing. When we arrived at our destination 50 or so other boats had the same idea. I believe half of the population went to the parades and the other half was fishing in Lafitte. The first part of the morning produced 31 trout and the second half 3 keeper reds and 1 flounder. It was a much better catch then we would have caught at any parade. Here are the boys, David Jr. and Jacob with a couple of nice trout. Conditions: clear with light winds. Bait; beetle`s under a cork, H&H cocahoe`s on the bottom. A big thanks to the guys for taking me away from Mardi Gras. Capt. E.J.
